The Benefits of Prenatal Massage Therapy

Prenatal massage is a specialized form of massage therapy designed to address the unique physical and emotional needs of a pregnant client. It offers a therapeutic, soothing, and relaxing experience while providing numerous benefits for both mother and baby. Receiving a prenatal massage is safe for all trimesters of pregnancy.

- Reduces muscle tension and pain:
Pregnancy can lead to aches and pains in the back, shoulders, pelvis, and legs. Prenatal massage helps alleviate these discomforts by releasing tension in muscles and relaxing the body.

- Improves sleep:
The stress-reducing effects of prenatal massage can promote better sleep quality, helping you rest and recharge.

- Reduces anxiety and stress:
Prenatal massage can help alleviate anxiety and stress, which are common during pregnancy. The calming atmosphere can create a sense of peace and well-being.

- Birth preparation:
Improved hip mobility and decreased muscle tension can help prepare the client’s body for giving birth

What to Expect:

‍Your prenatal massage may take place face up and down until week 22, or whenever you are not feeling comfortable doing so. After week 22, your massage will take place in the side lying position and semi-reclined position. These positions ensure safety for you and your growing baby along with promoting optimal circulation, ligament support, and joint support.

When Can I Receive a Prenatal Massage?

You may receive prenatal massage in all trimesters of pregnancy. Yes, receiving massage in the first trimester is safe if the therapist has proper education!  Additionally, there is no cut-off or limits for when you must stop. Clients can come in throughout their entire pregnancy, and typically increase their visits as they progress through the third trimester and are getting close to giving birth.

What Makes Savannah Different as a Massage Therapist?

- I am confident in administering safe and effective massage techniques that are specific to many common pregnancy complaints like low back and pelvic pain, round ligament pain, difficulty breathing, pubic symphysis dysfunction, and much more!

-
I have countless hours of hands-on practice in the side-lying position and continuing education specific to prenatal massage.

-
I am confident in giving firm pressure. I’ve received many comments from clients that their prior prenatal massage was too light. I am confident and happy to use firm pressure and various deep tissue therapy techniques to relieve your tension.

-
I utilize an extremely comfortable and supportive positioning system that will make laying on your side feel enjoyable again.

-
I value your communication and feedback - I want to work together to help you reach your goals.

Important Considerations

- Consult your doctor:
It's essential to consult with your healthcare provider before starting prenatal massage if you have experienced complications or a high risk pregnancy.
